Modern Foreign Language (MFL) Policy

From September 2014 it will be statutory for the Key Stage 2 children to be taught a modern foreign language.  The focus is on one language and culture taught in depth, so that children can make substantial progress.

At Cauldwell French is taught across the school from Years 1 to 6.  Initially children learn French through spoken language and communication; this is taught through conversation, songs, rhymes and stories.  Extensive use is made of visual and interactive activities.  In Upper Key Stage 2 more reading and writing of the language is introduced.

Year 4 children are offered the opportunity to visit France on a residential visit in conjunction with other Bedford schools.  This gives them an opportunity to listen to the language, try out speaking it themselves and learn about the culture of France.

We have achieved the Intermediate International Award.
